2005 Holiday Show House Design Overview
Villa Siena
The approach to this year’s Christmas House benefiting the Alliance Children’s Theatre Guild is up a winding drive to beautiful “Villa Siena” set on a hill amidst lush landscaping and tall trees. The architecture of the house was inspired by the old world villas in the Tuscany area of Italy. Designed by Harrison Design Associates and built by Beecham Builders, the house encompasses 14,000 sq. ft. of outstanding features that makes one feel as if they are in an 18th century Italian estate yet one that has all the conveniences of today’s technology.
From the arrival court, one is intrigued by the laurel stone base which serves as a pedestal for the creamy 8-inch-thick masonry stucco walls that are authentic to the period. One enters the villa through a classical Italianate portico that is fabricated of cast stone. The doors and windows of the house were custom built in Belgium of solid mahogany. The Villa is capped and protected from the elements by an antiqued clay, barrel tile roof produced in soft earth tones by Ludowici Tile. Extended overhangs with carved stained brackets and thick wood planking for the roof further authenticate the old world style. As guests move into the entry, they are impressed with striking vaulted ceilings, stone columns, floors and the 30 ft. domed rotunda that fills the center core of the house with natural sunlight. A series of arched openings lead to dining and living rooms which are mirror images of each other with classical decorative fireplaces.
